True, Martell needs to shoot well no matter what. But if he disappears on defense, or doesn't seem to be getting to the bucket, well, I don't pin those things on him entirely without seeing the context: that this team is weak in a lot of areas right now.

Randy: I agree with you. With or without Oden, this team needs to and should win. Again, while I want to see more hustle from both of those guys, it's on Nate, in my eyes.

Remember all the Outlaw hatred being spewed early this season? (I was and am a staunch defender of that guy.) Well, who wouldn't kill to have him healthy right now?

Rudy would have been a big help tonight.

Alas.

it's time for our TWO huge contract stars to prove their worth and lead this team. I will admit I was ready to throw the season away with everyone else when I read all the negativity about Oden going down... but today I realized we didn't give LA and Roy max and near-max contracts to lean on Greg Oden. Our two centerpieces must lead their team comfortably to the playoffs just as they were expected to. With or without Greg

Some of my feelings on Martell stem from my personal expectations, I'm sure. Not exactly fair, but he's the one guy in the league I know I do that with. I thought he could at least be a role player who could thrive in any situation because of easily translatable talents -- shooting, defense, rebounding, shooting -- but you are correct, right now, like Dante, he needs the guys around him to be better for his play to improve.

Of course, he should still be shooting better. That would be true were he on the Nets.
