His injury was described as a "left hip impingement". I can't testify as to the seriousness of it, or the type of surgery that was done to correct it. However, I did learn from Google that this is fairly common among young basketball players and many are able to have arthoscopic surgery to successfully correct this problem.

Here is one example...

Hip Surgery? Is this to replace or resurface his hip, or is there something else going on? I wonder if he had a bad hip to begin with.

A bad hip, in my opinion, would lead to persistent ongoing pain in the groin area. It would be very difficult to be a professional athlete with a bad hip.

Bo Jackson was a freak of nature to come back from hip replacement and continue to be a professional athlete. Surgery on a hip is not a good sign that Pendergraph has a future as a professional athlete.

Hip surgery, be it replacement and resurfacing, is something I have personal knowledge of...if it is to be some other kind of hip surgery I would be interested to know what it is and how invasive the surgery will be. Hip surgery is not something that normally occurs in young people.

Thanks for the info, Coup. I feel bad for Jeff - let's hope he gets back on the court as quickly as possible.

This would certainly explain why the Blazers haven't yet signed Pendergraph to a contract - and also why they're rumored to be trying out players like Howard and Swift.
