Greg Oden & Andre Miller: Black or White?
(First off, the idea for this post was ‘inspired’ by fellow FanSided bloggers Pippen Ain’t Easy, Howard The Dunk and We’re Bucked. And I meant to use ‘inspired’ like Puff Daddy did in the late 90′s. Also, no the title was not inspired by me watching Michael Jackson break windows and scream. It’s a head nod to the Black and White units the Blazers use.) Here’s a topic/question that hasn’t been brought up for a little bit: are Andre Miller & Greg Oden really going to come off the bench? If you’re scratching your head on that, let’s go on [...]
Blazing into MMA Territory
With UFC 102 coming up this weekend in Portland, I did a quick Q&A with fellow Fansided blogger Kipp Tribble on his MMA blog Rear Naked Joke. Topics include a duel between Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter, how well former Blazer Dancer Ione matches up in UFC and which Blazers would fare best in MMA.
KP on Batum: ‘he’s coming a lot faster than we expected’
If you haven’t seen this, I thought I’d pass this along as well. If you’re like me you’ll take just about ANYTHING Blazer related as we limp towards September and training camp/pre-season action. BEdger two4larue hit a Pujols-esque home run with his transcript of Blazer GM Kevin Pritchard’s recent appearance on Wheels At Work. In said transcript, KP talked a lot about the Euros but definitely had some eye-opening things to say about one Mr. Nic Batum. Definitely don’t want to step on the toes of someone who worked so hard, but definitely have to highlight a couple things. “…he [...]
Thought I’d pass along a little something something that raised my ears, kind of like when a dog hears someone at the door. This quote coming yesterday from Brian T. Smith of The Columbian’s Blazer Banter. When asked about the affect the Blazers non-c0smpolitan (aka small-market) status could have on free agency, here’s what Blazers President Larry Miller had to say about Brandon Roy: “I think we have our LeBron (James) or Dwyane Wade with Brandon Roy. I think for us, though, that’s a part of it. We want to make sure when we recruit or bring free agents here [...]
Report: Rubio signs with Regal Barcelona
Finally something to wash the bitter taste of boredom out of my mouth. No more Joe Smith signing or Ramon Sessions Sweeptstakes or where will AI go or Michael Beasley talk. Here is some blockbuster rumor/news of the day that you can sink your teeth into. Reports are coming left and right that Ricky Rubio will ditch the NBA for the next couple of seasons and sign with Regal Barcelona. Whoa. Kind of funny when you consider how Minny was so ‘optimistic’ a few days ago about him being in their 09-10 plans. Time to give credit where credit is [...]
What can Outlaw do for us?
Yes, the title of this post may have been ripped off (in a very corny fashion) from the UPS commercials. However, in my opinion, the question is very valid. What can Outlaw do for us? What can Travis Outlaw do for the Portland Trail Blazers this season? Reading his twitter updates he seems incredibly focused and ready to go to work. This is great news for Blazer fans. What’s the source of this motivation? The fan in me wants to think after failing somewhat miserably as the X-Factor in the playoffs, he never wants to feel that type of feeling [...]
Blazers get some new threads…
As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, today the Blazers officially announced two new uniforms that can be used during the 2009-10 season. Through the official Blazer twitter, pictures were released and it was also confirmed that the jerseys have been approved. It has not been announced when these uniforms will be worn. The first is a Hardwood Classic throwback to a uniform I believe the Blazers first busted out in 1975. A year I know they wore it in? 1977. Coincidence? I think not. I believe everyone is in agreement that this uni is pretty sick. The second is [...]
Realistic Expectations…
I was tweeting about this yesterday, and I’m still thinking about…what are realistic expectations for this Blazer team?? Last year, Coup and myself (rightfully) downplayed the hype and grand expectations to just hope to make it to the playoffs. Obviously, just scraping into the playoffs this year would be a complete disappointment. However, we’re looking at coming back after a 54-win season with minimal losses (sorry Channing and Sergio but I’m not sorry), the addition of Andre Miller (upgrade at PG either way you slice it), the potential growth of Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez, Nic Batum, the return of Martell [...]
Report: Leon Powe to sign with Cleveland
Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that forward Leon Powe is “closing in” on a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yahoo Sports! reports that the deal would be two years for the minimum if Cleveland’s doctors are “satisfied with the progress of his injured left knee”. Powe re-tore his left ACL in the Playoffs and dating back to his days at the University of California, has struggled with knee injuries. That same history of knee problems led the Boston Celtics to barely even take a sniff at him this summer. As Windhorst stated in his article, obviously the [...]
Brandon Roy likes Andre Miller. A Lot.
From a transcript of B-Roy’s recent interview on 95.5 The Game (credit: Sports Radio Interviews) Just thought I’d pass it along because it’s a somewhat intriguing read. Especially if you’re like me and have been skeptical about Andre Miller coming to Portland for 17 or so days. When #7 speaks, everyone listens. : On what Andre Miller brings to the Blazers: “I think the biggest thing he’ll bring is leadership to our team. Me, and LaMarcus, and coach Nate of course have tried to do that; even coach Nate would say that you need a player out there to do it. [...]
