Wolves trade Foye and Miller to Wizards for #5 Pick

Posted by: SJ

More craziness today, both Yahoo Sports and ESPN are reporting that the Washington Wizards have agreed to send Etan Thomas, Darius Songalia and Oleksiy Pecherov and most importantly the #5 pick in this Thursday’s draft to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Randy Foye and Mike Miller.

The deal will not officially be done until tomorrow. ESPN has all the details on exactly what is holding up the process and they report Etan Thomas has to sign some paperwork that he won’t opt out and Minnesota’s owner has to green light it. But as of now it seems as if all systems are go. Minnesota will now have the #5 and #6 picks in this year’s draft and it’s clear they covet a couple of piece. Washington gets out of a draft that they have desperately wanted to get out of since Day 1 and while they deal some expiring contracts, they get two solid players in Foye and Miller. I like the trade from both standpoints. For Washington it’s a deal that allows them to compete now and gives them people who can surround their core 3. Foye is an uber upgrade over Antonio Daniels, ditto for Mike Miller over DeShawn Stevenson. For Minnesota, this kind of reminds me of the Blazers wheeling and dealing of a couple years back. It’s a great step in the rebuilding process if you ask me. This isn’t the greatest of drafts to have 4 first round picks in but they can either package them up or develop all of them because they have major needs in their backcourt and possibly adding to the Love/Jefferson big man combo.

All these deals are making me wonder just what the heck Portland is about to do in two days.

            BallHype: hype it up!

I swear, every time I see a Pixar movie there’s a trade in the NBA.

Is it just me or do the Wiz still not have any big men that are ready to produce?

  2. 2. SJ Says:

Well after this trade I don’t think they’ll have any big men period.

McGee, McGuire, 31 games of Haywood, Blatche…yeah, that team’s going places…

It’s been a long time since Washington’s had any good big men, and this isn’t the draft to get em.
