RCP NBA Mock Draft Part I
We’re giving you Part I of the Mock Draft today, which is just the results of SJ and I arguing for the better part of the day. Monday, I’ll post our explanations for each of the first-round picks. Everything you see in parenthesis marks an either/or situation — mostly if the team appears likely to move the pick.

[...] Who goes where? NBA mock draft — ripcityproject [...]
June 8th, 2009 at 1:24 pmYou don’t think OKC takes Rubio if Memphis gets Thabeet? Even with Westbrook how do you pass on Rubio?
June 8th, 2009 at 3:44 pmHopefully we’ll have our full explanations up soon, but the mock is a combination of what we think should and will happen. I don’t know that turning Westbrook into an off-guard is best for his development. I’m not that sold on Rubio either…think they should trade down to where they can get Hill.
June 8th, 2009 at 3:58 pm[...] Mock NBA draft. I still don’t think OKC passes on Ricky Rubio if Thabeet goes #2 to Memphis. [...]

June 8th, 2009 at 4:38 pmNice draft. For the one I did, I was thinking the Pistons may take Meeks in round one with how thin this year’s is…diff note, do you see Memphis trading the two pick at all to get more picks or sticking with Thabeet?
June 8th, 2009 at 5:38 pmCheers,
James
From what I hear, Memphis’ pick is readily available. If I were them, I’d consider everything, but they don’t want to take on salary and there’s no point in them getting vets yet so…that said, I don’t like Thabeet at No. 2, but I’m not a huge Rubio fan either. The real value in this draft is 10-25ish.

June 8th, 2009 at 8:21 pmWow, haven’t seen Carroll in the first round at all, but I’d question that pick just because Cleveland has two young forwards in Hickson and Jackson waiting and developing, especially Hickson.
June 8th, 2009 at 11:12 pmGood point. As you’ll see in our explanations (which are coming…ummm….soon) you have to assume Wallace, Varejao and Smith are all out of there. Why not take what could be the next coming of Big Ben? Might be a reach.
June 8th, 2009 at 11:26 pmVery true. But really, they might be waiting around quite awhile for the next Big Ben.
Carroll very well could be there at #46 anyways.
You guys are not that high on Evans huh?
Also, in regards to Portland, Taj Gibson might be a nice pickup early in the 2nd round.
June 9th, 2009 at 12:18 amIt seems to me that you have missed Omri Caspi.
June 9th, 2009 at 3:22 amNot only he becomes trendy (almost all selects him at 23-28), but he also impresses at the current camps.
Believe me, we didn’t miss him. He was in every discussion from pick 20 onward.
June 9th, 2009 at 11:09 amI see what you’re saying but for some reason I don’t see Carroll dropping down that far in this draft. He’s got enough upside to trump a lot of the talent here.
It’s not that we aren’t high on Evans, it’s just we felt he wasn’t quite the best fit for certain teams. IMO, he’s a little too much like Foye to go to Minny and I felt like Skiles would like Holiday’s defense in Milwaukee. If Indy could steal him that would be a nice dig.
Sidenote it was a nightmare trying to think about who the Pistons would take.
I wouldn’t mind giving Taj a try but he reminds me too much of Channing. And he’s old.
June 9th, 2009 at 1:28 pm[...] on Wayne Ellington, who is being projected around that area by most of the mocks, including the Rip City Project. While either the 32nd (not likely) or the 38th (very likely) could be the place where Portland [...]

June 11th, 2009 at 2:05 pmThat’s not a bad mock draft, I’ll keep Tyreke Evans in mind for the Pacers when I make my first round mock draft.
