The latest from Mike Barret:
As you probably know, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden were invited to play for the USA Basketball Select Team in Las Vegas this summer. While Oden and Aldridge will play, Roy will not. The Blazers, along with Roy, decided some rest is perhaps more in order, and that certainly seems like a good decision. We have, however, learned that Jerryd Bayless has now received an invitation, and will play on the select team against Team USA. This is huge for Jerryd, as he’ll join the group of about 16 players in this prestigious event.
There’s all sorts of good news in there. First, Roy is taking some time off this summer, or at least he’s sticking to workouts. Considering the various injuries that have nagged him, I can definitely smell what Roy is cookin’. Secondly, what we already knew, that Oden and Aldridge will be playing against Team USA this summer. Regarding Oden: People who put together a gold-medal winning team, +1, Bill Simmons, 0.
But the news that should get your red and white pinwheels spinning frantically (Golliver sure is happy tonight) is that Bayless received the same invitation. If that isn’t a confirmation of his talent and his drive, I don’t know what is. I can’t wait to watch him this summer. The time to doubt Rex is dwindling.
And surprising nobody, BlazerDave put together a comprehensive list of all the Blazers’ financial options this summer. Bookmark it.
