Game 7 Re-Thoughts
Quick and simple thoughts here, no need to beat dead horses. LA beat up on Houston because 1) they decided to play defense for once and 2) Houston responded horribly to said defense. Instead of moving the ball and their bodies, they stagnated and dug themselves a mighty big hole that got bigger and bigger. Houston’s O was miserable thanks to LA and that was all the Lakers needed to cruise. I respect the hell out of Luis Scola though after this series. I’m still bitter than this Rocket team decided to show up a series late but I guess this [...]

Game 7′s Pre-Thoughts
Thought you were done with these for the year, huh? I’ll be the first to admit that ever since the Blazers were eliminated, I’ve been in a bit of a malaise when it comes to writing about the playoffs. I’ve sat and watched every game but I for the life of me haven’t been able to spit out a word about it. Nothing like a pair of Game 7′s to change that. David Stern faces a dream scenario/slight nightmare as the Lakers and Celtics are on the verge of elimination. Lakers/Rockets I can’t remember a series that has bothered me [...]
Fixing The 4, pt. 1: Free Agents
(The lack of updates are centered around me struggling to finish this beast. Enjoy) So far at the RCP, the off-season talk has centered around what the Blazers need to fix. It’s been a lot easier than in years past. No sweating over the lottery, no having to dump 2-3 players, no freaking about if the Blazers can make the leap to the playoffs. There really isn’t that much to talk about because when you have a 54-win season and are a regular season win away from who-knows-what happening, something is working. And yes that was a shot at Denver, [...]
What to do with Greg Oden?
Nothing. Now go enjoy the nice day. In all seriousness, as I sat down to write about Oden I saw Dave had beat me to it, and really, he most of what there needed to be said. It doesn’t take a long essay to explain why Oden did, in fact, have a good rookie season, as I wrote about in January. You don’t have to listen to the national media — who didn’t watch this team every day — or Bill Simmons, who isn’t acknowledging that Oden is likely to shed his foul troubles, for multiple reasons, as he gets [...]
Brandon Roy voted on to All-NBA Second Team
Here’s the story. He’s joins some fine company in Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce and Yao Ming. Respect, Bird. Mad respect, Bird.
Remember when draft workouts mattered?
I sure do and it feels so, so far away. Positive of a 54-win season: the draft is way less stressful. It’s no longer make or break. It’s nearly relaxing. We find a steal? Awesome. We trade the pick and some players? Even better. Pretty much anything the Blazers do in the draft will get a thumbs up from me. Just anything but a European project. Please. Monia, Khryapa, Freeland and Petteri…I’ve had enough. Portland had their first summer workouts and…meh….I didn’t care. I still don’t while writing this post. It sure doesn’t help that the majority of the guys worked out are [...]
What to do at the Small Forward?
And we’re back. Apologies for the lack of updates, definitely had to take a couple days there to recharge the batteries after finals. (Who cares). Continuing with a little bit of off-season talk, now lets jump to the small forward problem. I know you’re probably making a thizz face or raising the people’s eyebrow after that one. Small forward problem? Stick with me. This “problem” is similar to the point guard “issue” in that it doesn’t need to be addressed immediately. If Portland comes back with what it already has, it is far from the end of the world. Even though that is [...]
The NBA: Where ruining days happens.
Stopped by Ball Don’t Lie just to surf the internet while getting my Honey Bunches of Oats on. One of my regular morning stops around the net. First post says “NBA Commercials never cease to amaze me”. Neat! says I. Without reading a single word of text above the embedded video, I immediately click play. This has to be something sick right? Big mistake skipping all the words because I would have seen this: (Quick note to Blazers and Pistons fans: You might want to just skip this post.) Hindsight not only is 20/20 but it’s cursing at me right now. Anyways…The [...]
The PG Dilemma (continued)
This is in response to the comments from the initial post below. Shout out to everyone who got in on that discussion. As Coup would say…mad respect, bird. I’m just going to bullet some of the overall thoughts I gathered. First off, the discussion opened my eyes to a couple things. The first is that while this might be an “issue” for the Blazers it’s not something that absolutely has to be fixed this year. Portland has the luxury if they can’t make the right move to play Blake in a contract year, give Bayless the ball in his second year and [...]
