Blazers/Clippers Pre-Thoughts

If you’re a team who wants to have home court advantage when the real fun starts in 7 days, you do not lose to a 19-60 team. You don’t go win in San Antonio and then drop one to the Clippers. You don’t out-match the Lakers and then lose to the Clippers. There’s no plausible excuse for losing to the Clippers. While we’re dreaming of playoff glory, the are keeping their fingers crossed for Blake Griffin. Come on now people. This is a team whose headline after last night’s win said “Skinner, Gordon power Clippers past Kings” and they were talking about THE Brian Skinner.

And I would leave it at that…but of course Zach Randolph returns from his suspension just in time to play his former team. And you know what that means. Reasons to be fearful of the Clippers? Baron Davis, Eric Gordon and Zach Randolph. Those are the three guys that can beat you. As a matter of fact, this is only the second time we’ve faced a “healthy” Clipper team featuring all of their best players. The last time? We lost to them at home. BD has always found a way to cause the Blazers problems over the years. He’s a tough match-up for our PG’s because of his size and a tough match-up for B-Roy because of his quicks. Zach will be trying to go for 40 and Eric Gordon has been going to work for a while now. These three are going to shoot the ball and shoot the ball a lot. And the fact that they can go out and play with nothing to lose also scares me. Because these three with less of a conscience than they already have isn’t a good combination. Combine them with Kaman and Camby and it won’t be nearly as cut and dry. The best part is after that…there’s nothing. And I’m talking Fred Jones, Alex Acker, Brian Skinner type nothing. To get where we all want this team to go…they can’t struggle with this team.

The trap is set. There is no need for a key to success. There are just questions. Will the Blazers dare come out and play with no passion, no interest, no legs, no execution like they did for 24 minutes in Memphis? Or was that a lesson learned? Because if they come out like they have against inferior competition in the past, there’s a chance no one will be happy. However if they come and play with energy, effort and patience, things should go well. And all that matters is going into Staples Center and getting a W. If Portland grinds the Clippers for 48 minutes, there is no way this Clipper team can keep up. None. I’ve got a better chance of getting Carrie Underwood to fall in love with me than the Clippers have of keeping up with the Blazers for a full 48. And that’s the honest truth. They are not good enough offensively or defensively to beat the Blazers for. BUT and this is a Kim Kardashian-sized but, Portland cannot make it easy on them. If they do it’s  different story. If they play down, or ‘OLE’ defense or turn the ball over repeatedly it is a whole different ball game.  They play the way we all know they can and this shouldn’t be too hard.
