Greg rolls his ankle…McCain suspends campaign

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Greg Oden | COMMENTS: None Yet

Oh, my, gosh, Becky, look at her — wait, Greg Oden rolled his ankle?! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he had to sit out the last 30 minutes of practice because he tweaked the ankle. I’m pretty sure Dr. Dre will never release Detox after word of this news reaches his studio. Seriously though, it’s a complete non issue.
If you really wanted to speculate over the effect of a molehill on global warming, you could say he might be favoring (mentally at least, not because of pain) one leg, throwing off his balance a bit. That’s only if you need something to [...]

LaMarcus is ready…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jason Quick spoke on the Blazer Big 3: Oden, LMA and B-Roy.
But the article got me excited about one man and one man only. LaMarcus Aldridge. He reveals that he feels begrudged and slept on..you can see that giant chip growing on his shoulder. In fact it’s been growing for a couple years as Quick points out early in the article. Remember last year everyone wondered ‘Can he fill Z-Bo’s shoes’? No one knew exactly what to expect from LaMarcus in his first full year of action. It was known he wouldn’t be a ball-hog so the answer was yes, [...]

Media Day

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today’s Media Day for the Blazers and the majority of the league. We…have no access (yes college). Sean Meagher of the constantly underrated Blazer Blog is on the case, constantly updating from Media Day. So far he’s got quotes from Roy, Oden, Rudy and Bayless.
My favorite quote so far is of course from Rudy Fernandez. This guy is like a Bizarro TO or Bizarro Chad Johnson in that he’s quotable but his quotes are awesome. Today, when…actually take it away Mr. Meagher:
“On who he’s looking forward to playing against the most: “Pau. I’ve never played against him, only on the [...]

Oklahoma City Thunder jerseys…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

….are officially the lamest in NBA history.
Ball Don’t Lie has the low-down in the link above…but oh boy. The dictionary should replace any definition of the word ‘blah’ with pictures of the Oklahoma City Thunder jerseys. And I’m not even exaggerating. Absolutely no imagination whatsover. These jerseys look fitting for a high-end high school and I’m dead serious. The majority of college jerseys are cooler than these. The home jerseys are white with….’Thunder’ across the front. That’s it. It wouldn’t be Bennett without stealing, so he swiped the Warriors’ collar. Such a good guy. No thunderbolt…no OKC….nothing. Just Thunder. Ok. [...]

Power Rankings history…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

I can’t be the only one who logged on to ESPN’s NBA page and thought Power Rankings had come out. Half way right…turns out they did. Only it’s a retrospective of the past six years (2002-2008). You will find yourself spending at least an hour messing around with all of this information. At least I know I did. The real deal comes out next week, which means we’re….*this* much closer to the season. The Blazers averaged out at 22nd over the past six years. Thanks to last year’s team and the 02-03 squad. Depressing to think in the past six [...]

OKC Thunder Jerseys Leak?

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Courtesy of Blue Blitz. I’d definitely click on the lick if you want more. Basically video and images from NBA 2K9, NBA Live 09 and NBA 09 have given some knowledge on the new uniforms of the Oklahoma City Thunder. All the evidence is on their page. They were rumored to be displayed tomorrow anywho so we’ll see if it’s confirmed. If so it looks as if more lameness will surround the Thunder franchise.
Sidenote…if you clicked on Blue Blitz and watched the video…how sick does NBA 2K9 look? Is that seriously the loading intro? Actual video footage with a smooth [...]

Props for Becky…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Olympics double-killed the WNBA as they were pushed into September and became three times more of an afterthought. Last year I patted the WNBA for their playoffs being great. This year…not so much. Lack of close games and marketability. But today brought them a bit of respectability. Becky Hammon led San Antonio past the uber-marketable Candace Parker, Lisa Leslie, LA Sparks team. I know….no one cares and no one will even know, despite ESPN remembering they cover the WNBA and putting it in their headlines to try and boost ratings. But she deserves a pat on the back for [...]

The Nuggets = Lost Their Minds

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Sitting on the couch watching all of the college football upsets…I knew it was a crazy Saturday.
Just not this crazy.
Headline: ‘Nuggets believe they can win 60 games‘
At first glance I thought this was some sort of satire piece ala Blazer’s Edge talking about Phil Jackson boycotting games. But no, sir. Quite the opposite. Very serious. This can’t be true though, has to just be some reporter blowing up some smoke to get some reads on the weekend. Right? No way the Nuggets could think they can win 60 games. I’m sure if we talk to everyone’s favorite Olympian/non-snitcher we’ll be [...]

White Chocolate retires…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The LA Times (and TrueHoop) are reporting that Jason Williams has officially retired. Did not see this one coming at all….I’m definitely shocked. Heading over to YouTube to watch some highlights of him as a King…this guy was the man when I was in middle school. *sigh*
UPDATE: The LA Times updates the situation. So at least we have a glimmer of light in a dark room. Here’s what Clippers Head Coach Mike Dunleavy had to say:
“He called us up, gave us a couple of days’ notice through his agent, saying, ‘I’m just not feeling like I’m wanting to come in [...]

Big Joel speaks..

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

If you didn’t catch it yesterday, Blazer Blogger extraordinaire Casey Holdahl got a few words with Big Joel Pryzbilla. As always with Big Joel an interesting read, here are a few nuggets I believe to have stood out.
On Jerryd Bayless:
“Jerryd looks great. I was telling Mike Rice, his demeanor reminds me a lot of how Brandon (Roy) was when he first came in as a rookie. I think he’s only 19 years old (ed. note: Bayless turned 20 on August 20), but he doesn’t seem that young. It’s the way he handles himself, not only on the court, but off [...]
