Best All-Star intro ever.

I think this link has bounced around from The FanHouse to TrueHoop to Detroit Bad Boys and numerous others in the blogosphere. As a basketball fan, you’ve got to watch this.

Realistic Expectations

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Worldwide Leader with realistic predictions? I’ve knocked them in the past but ESPN actually used their brains for once and deserve a pat on the back.
In my eyes they nailed the Western Conference darn near perfectly. The West is going to be just as tough as last year. The Elite has grown from 3 (San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix) to 5 (Lakers, New Orleans, San Antonio, Houston, Utah). And all 5 of those teams are not taken a step back, especially the Rockets. People may want to call for a Spurs collapse thanks to age and Manu’s injury. Honestly, it’s [...]

Game Over

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Howard Schultz’s last-ditch effort to re-claim the Seattle Supersonics is over. To borrow an analogy from my partner-in-crime…it looks as if Seattle’s white knight who gave the princess away to the dragon and tried to come back with a vengeance…saw the flames and got out before he got burned.
Let the Thunder Roll.

Best. Trade. Ever.

From ESPN:
I’m not sure what’s funnier, the Knicks somehow ending up with Patrick Ewing Jr. or the fact that someone was able to locate Frederic Weis and verify his continued existence on this earth. I haven’t even seen the guy since VC and his tiny fro demolished his life.

Nate loses sleep over Rudy

Thank you very much Mr. Quick. Can we start the season already, sheesh. Also doesn’t sound like Nate is thinking much about having Outlaw on the trade block or anything like that. So much for the rumors.

Monta out 3 months…

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

CORRECTION: He’ll be unable to resume basketball workouts for three months, not be out for the first three months of the season. Reading and I get along real well.
ESPN reports that Monta Ellis will be sidelined for the first three months of the season with a severely sprained ankle. Reportedly the injury took place last Thursday during a pick-up game in Monta’s hometown.
I’ll refrain from making jokes about the newly crowned $66 million dollar man playing pickup in Jackson, Mississippi. That’s someone else’s job. Going into the season the Warriors were one of those teams picked to battle for that [...]

Compete Nonsense (the remix)

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Have to love off-season rumors.
I woke up this morning and got an e-mail pointing my direction to Blog-a-Bull. No details were given. I clicked the link and…’Blazers offer Outlaw and Prz for Hinrich’ is what I was greeted too. Immediately I say no way could that be true. The original source is here, Chicago Bulls Rumors by Tech N9ne. The rapper? If so I will take 15 grains of salt because the man paints his face like the Ultimate Warrior. Anyways…
The fact that someone could even think about putting this out on the internet is funny to me. Downright hilarious. [...]

Complete Nonsense

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I’m not going to lie, swallowing the news of Kevin Duckworth’s death has been tough to swallow. He was one of my heroes growing up. I was only 3, 4 and 5 so I don’t have the same memories that others have. I remember he played hurt in a big game. I remember he was an All-Star. But I just remember that 00 was one of 5 men I idolized as a little baby. I don’t really know what else to say at all. Rest In Peace Duck, your family is in my prayers.
Now…onto Mr. Ronald Tillery. Who? He writes [...]

Kevin Duckworth, dead at 44

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today begins with the sad news that Kevin Duckworth, former Blazers center and two-time All-Star, has passed away in Lincoln City, OR at the age of 44. He was in town as a Heritage Ambassador for the Blazers Summer Tour.
I was still very young during Duck’s days in Portland and as such have few memories of him in a Blazer uniform. Here’s what Henry Abott remembers. Please share all your favorite Duckworth moments. We will update as soon as more details are released.
UPDATE: Here’s some more information on yesterday’s story.

Team USA vs. Spain Live-blog

Kind of.
12:12: My mom calls me to tell me the game is on. I respond in a befuddled rage, expecting it to be on in the morning. I wonder if I can recover mentally?
12:13: Rudy with a ridiculous fade-away three over Tayshaun Prince. He dribbled between his legs three times and just jacked it up. To say this was a “bad shot” would be an understatement. If this was a pickup game and he took that I would have been cussing him out the whole time the ball was in the air. I still don’t know how I feel about [...]
