Old Guys: Still Not Moving

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

UPDATE: Sam Cassell, waived by the Clippers. My analysis is down below from two days ago when I thought it was going down. If he lands anywhere other than Boston or Phoenix I will be shocked. The old guys I speak of are Sam Cassell and Brent Barry. For the third straight day let’s check in on the old fellas. Sam Cassell Cassell and the Clips are engaged in quite the stalemate. The Clippers are saying “Geeze Sam, you’re kind of ugly we want to keep the rest of the money we owe you to cover our emotional damages from [...]

Wizards: Out of Magic

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Washington Wizard fans have to be having a wicked case of deja vu right about now. Last season fell apart as Gilbert and Caron Butler went down with injuries late in the season. This season? Gilbert has missed 49 games, and a few days ago said he still isn’t sure when/if he’s coming back. Now news that Caron Butler’s strained hip flexor is actually a “small labral tear of the left joint” and his return is up in air as well. Washington is 24-25 on the year without Agent Zero in the lineup. They can be .500 with Caron and [...]

The Night Watch

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Swin Cash gives me the hibbie-jibbies. In both ways. Although not as much as that guy from Georgia Tech who banged his head tonight and turned into the Undertaker. Watch SportsCenter or YouTube it. Scary indeed. New Orleans 120, Phoenix 103 With or without Shaq, New Orleans owns Phoenix. Suns fans, y’all can win the championship as long as you don’t run into LA or NO. And I didn’t even bring up the defending champs. *shudder* Don’t be fooled by the score though people, this was quite the game until the Hornets caught fire in the third quarter. Jannero Pargo [...]

The Houston ‘Debate’ + More

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I’m not sure why this has become a mini-debate to be honest with you. But I guess you can never count on common sense shining through when ESPN is involved. John Hollinger threw around a bunch of numbers and came to the conclusion that Rockets might still make the playoffs. I have an issue with that argument. Not because it’s impossible that the Rockets may make the playoffs. My beef with Hollinger is because he doesn’t acknowledge just what Yao’s injury has done to the Rockets season. So best-case scenario they sneak their way into the playoffs? Even if they [...]

The Night Watch

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This is the corny name you get for my thoughts on the night’s action until I think of a new one. Or maybe this will stick…probably not it sounds like a bad Cinemax movie. You know like ‘Desperate Desires’ or “Necessary Secrets’. The kind you can’t watch until you know your parents were asleep. Night Watch definitely sounds like it involves cops, some sort of death, strippers, mystery and a blonde with boobs. Maybe I should be coming up with names for late-night Cinemax movies instead of talking about basketball. Nah. Houston 94, Washington 69 I guess no one told [...]

Yao: Stressed Out

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

ESPN.com reports that Yao Ming is out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. Do you hear those sounds?? They are all coming from Houston, Texas. That ‘BANG’ was the crashing of the Houston Rockets season. It’s also being accompanied by moans, groans, screams, cries and vomiting of all their fans. Tracy McGrady has to have demolished something by now. The impact this injury has is obvious, you don’t need me to blabber on about it. A caveman could figure out that this Bad News Bears for the Rockets. That 12 game winning [...]

Oh Brent

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Affirmative Action says I have to give the Brent Barry Sweepstakes equal time as I did Cassell. I’m not sure what’s shocking me more: the fact that I’m actually typing a lot of words about Brent Barry in February or the fact that he won the Slam Dunk Contest. I was there as a kid, I watched it fifteen times, it still does not make sense to me. I really think he killed the contest on the low. And why is he not a hero to white people across the nation. And how come he can’t dunk anymore, I think [...]

Cassell: Clipped?

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sam Cassell is reportedly going to be bought out by the Clippers shortly. If so, he will replace Brent Barry as the hottest free agent out there (Who thought we’d be saying that ever?). The question is where does he go?? His value is unquestioned. The man is a 15 year veteran in the league, a point guard who knows how to play the game. Cassell has been involved in the turnaround of three franchises. In Milwaukee he played a big role in taking the ‘lowly’ Bucks all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in 01. (We were *this* [...]

New Orleans, Meet DeShawn

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Let’s play a little game people. Raise your hand if you would have believed the following. The Washington Wizards would beat the (then) #2 team in the West on the road. They would do it without Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler. They would do it with Antawn Jamison scoring 10 points and shooting 3-for-16 from the field. If you raised your hand you are a liar. It happened though. Washington went into New Orleans and won 95-92. How?? DeShawn stinkin’ crappin’ Stevenson. Yes, stop with the laughter. DeShawn Stevenson absolutely took over that game. He had 33 points on the [...]

Re: Rod Thorn?

AUTHOR: | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

I still remember the day I heard the Blazers turned down Vince Carter for Theo Ratliff. I was devastated, bewildered and furious. Not nearly the same kind of emotion at losing Mr. Kidd, but the fact that we could have gotten him for just Jack and Raef makes me scratch my head. Here’s what I’m thinking that Kidd was thinking. For one I think its fairly obvious he just really wanted to go to Dallas. Also, I doubt he would have had the patience to go through another rebuilding stage where he would have to carry a team up. Understandable [...]
