Money Talk

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

SJ covered the talent aspects, Giricek is a terrible player and won’t do much for Philly, but it looks like Stefanski is mostly trying to free up some cap space. According to the hoopshype.com contracts and ESPN, the Sixers cleared about $10-million in cap space for the summer of ‘08. Plus, if they trade Andre Miller to clear some of the $9-million plus he is owed this year and next, that will give Philly between 14 and 19 million of extra cap room. Thats all well and good, and it’s a strong step towards undoing the many mistakes of Billy [...]

Who Wins?

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Utah and Philadelphia made a swap today that may actually help both teams. For Philadelphia they get to dump Kyle Korver and the 15 million he would have gotten over the next three years for Gordon Giricek’s expiring contract. That’s good business by Ed Stefanski, now maybe they can fool someone into coming or just overpay someone to come. Either way its a positive for the future. However, Giricek isn’t making much of a difference for the Sixers right now. He’s definitely one of the worst Euros in the league right now as Delfino and Vujacic have had shining moments. [...]

Just FYI: I’ll be tinkering with layout and colors here for the next day or so, but hopefully it should not affect any of the existing and future content.

Thursday Night

Before
Not the best of doubleheaders tonight. Cleveland goes to Dallas in a game where people will be sure to point out just how bad Cleveland is and make the false statement that the Mavericks are championship contenders. I almost guarantee it. Second game is the Celtics travelling to Seattle. This is going to be ugly…Ray Allen might drop 40. Boston has too much defense for a team that is depending on Kevin Durant and Wally’s World for their outside scoring. And lastly in a non nationally televised game Phoenix travels to LA to face the Clippers. The Clippers are very [...]

Soaring Hawks?

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

As much as we have been giving love to the Blazers, and even though the nation has picked up on it someone has to give love to the OTHER hot, young, surprising team in the NBA. Ladies and gentlemen…I give you the Atlanta Hawks. Yes…those same Hawks that haven’t had a record over .500 since the lockout year. Yes those same Hawks who have been marked for success the past 2-3 years and have underachieved every year. I’m serious, the Hawks really aren’t that bad right now. Truth be told

Atlanta has won 5 games in a row and have [...]

Red Out Reactions

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Now that SJ has owned Amare with his spot-on post below, it’s time to tackle yesterday’s Blazer contest with a quick(ish) wrap up.
It was a bit of an ugly, disjointed win for the Blazers, which is good, because everyone has got to be able to win ugly. The closenesss of the score at half had much more to do with open shots not falling for the guys in red and Wally’s World was hitting everytime he had a sliver of daylight — as he tends to do against Portland — than any execution problems. The Sonics tried to throw a [...]

PHX’s #1 Problem

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

There is one reason why the Phoenix Suns would not win the NBA championship and it is to the right of me. The one basic, fundamental flaw in their hopes and dreams is the fact that Amare Stoudemire has no defense right now. Seriously. They should consider calling him Amare Stouemire cause he ain’t got no D.

It’s ironic that on those Magic Johnson Fundamental DVDs Magic chose Amare to help teach people post defense. And calm down with the whole ‘Amare is in the top 10 in blocks’ because his defensive failures go beyond that. There is a [...]

Christmas Day Thoughts

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Merry Christmas to all!! I spent a good 5 minutes this morning debating to myself whether it was Marry or Merry and thanks to the 82131 mass text messages I received I figured it out. Moving along, travel made sure I wouldn’t get to catch all three games today but I still have some thoughts.

I’m not exactly sure that Miami realizes they aren’t very good. I love the throwbacks but they are playing like the 91-92 Heat. The way they started the game was just awful, and the sad part is they came back and were winning in the second [...]

Merry Christmas

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just wanted to wish all those passing by a Merry Christmas. We’ll have game reactions to tomorrows NBA slate up sometime tomorrow night, but in the meantime, enjoy your time wherever you are and with whomever you are with. Hopefully it’s a good one for everyone, even Scott Skiles.

Hilarious

Anyone else find it funny that all sorts of veteran point guards are coming out proclaiming on how much they would love to help the Celtics? First Gary Payton…now Travis Best? Come on now. Where is Dana Barros?
