Assassins

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Carmelo Anthony has been an absolute assasin during the Tournament of Americas. LeBron had his assasin moment (aka the perfect first half). Kobe is always an assassin. The biggest difference is this team has a killer instinct. They want to demolish everyone. And everyone does their job without complaining. To me they are nearly unstoppable. What team can guard Kobe, LeBron and Melo? Exactly. I’m not so sure that last night’s win over Argentina provided any sort of “validation” considering that many of the top Argentinians (Ginobli, Nocioni, Oberto and Hermann) were MIA. This has been a major step in [...]

102-100. Final Score. Regulation. 97-89 with 49 seconds left but the home team comes back to tie it with 2 seconds left. Winning team’s two best players; 20 points, 7/11 shooting and 27 points, 7 boards, 6 assists on 7/15 shooting and 11/13 from the line. Losing team’s two best players; 32 points, 7 threes, brought the team back from down 8 with els than a minute left. 24 points and 18 boards. 14,592 people in attendance.
Phoenix Mercury vs. San Antonio Silver Stars Game 1. Eons better than pretty much all NBA playoff games that didn’t involve the Warriors or [...]

Gotta love the US Open…only here will you get outifts like that from American Bethanie Mattek. Say what you want Coup, but you know you’d watch her swing a tennis racket. Speaking of American, it seems almost as if there is a mini-renaissance coming from the American tennis players. Sure it is only the fourth day but still. Two young American men in Donald Young (only 18 years old, in his first grand slam, Wimbledon Juniors Champion) and John Isner are definitely making some noise. Add that to the fact that Roddick and Blake haven’t messed up yet and [...]

Thoughts

Raise your hand if you actually thought that Yi wasn’t going to sign with the Bucks. Exactly. Funny how it was this huge deal ‘OMG HE’S NOT GONNA SIGN’ so of course he does. Silly media.
Also, what is Rafer Alston thinking these days? Not only has he had two run-ins with the law, he hasn’t been at informal workouts and didn’t know that the coaching staff was in town. Rafer should definitely write a book called ‘How to lose your starting spot in 2 months.’
Overall, one of the dumbest things I’ve heard in recent memory. I was scanning TrueHoop and [...]

AFC Rankings

Still here and kickin. Same deal as last week, but this time we’re tackling the “superior” conference.16. Cleveland Browns-CoupI think there’s three cut-and-dry bottom feeders in the NFC, but the Browns have the least going for them this season. Maybe Brady Quinn becomes a legit starter in three years, but he’s too far behind because of the contract negotiations and our friends at ESPN still seem to treat him like a top-5 pick when there’s a damn good reason he dropped so far. It might be a contract year for Jamal Lewis and the mythical third season for wideout Braylon [...]

MJ Smacked Him

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The “Him” being Reggie Miller. He is not coming back. My respect for him has jumped up a level or two. Mainly because of the fact that he listened to himself and not the public or his closest allies. And the fact that he won’t ever be thinking about it again. Plus it would have been strange and borderline wrong to see Reggie in the Celtics Green.
Team USA absolutely destroyed the US Virgin Islands, to the point where Tim Duncan may just start telling people he was born in Miami, Florida. Call me a patriot or getting caught in the [...]

Mini Diary

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

To my surprise I walk back into my room for the first time since the morning (gotta love school) and my TV is on ESPN2. And it sounds like there is basketball on. Sure enough its the WNBA Playoffs (ugh) Eastern Conference edition. 66-66 and Connecticut couldn’t score to take the win over Indiana. Turns out Indiana had come back from down 17 to force overtime…and this woman by the name of Anna DeForge is going off. They showed a highlight package and she hit the first three of OT. All the energy is sucked out of the building, which [...]

Team USA

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is a well-oiled machine. Joining this team may have been the smartest thing Kobe has done. It just seems like every member on this team is seeing their stock go up. The difference that Michael Redd and Mike Miller make when they are making shots is crazy. You can’t really pack it in because they’ll hit open shots and there isn’t a chance you can guard Kobe, LeBron, Melo or Jason Kidd. Imagine this team with D-Wade? Gold medal for sure.
FIBA Predictions for today…Uruguay shocks a depleted and disinterested Argentina team, Canada over Venezuela, Puerto Rico over Panama and the [...]

More From Yesterday

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The draws for the US Open came out and if you’re an Andy Roddick fan than you’re pretty much screwed. Unless Federer gets upset (which there is a 99.9 percent chance it won’t happen) it looks like Roddick would have to face him in the quarters. Not the semis or the finals. The quarters. I pick Federer to steamroll again. On the Women’s Side, Maria Sharapova has her easiest road to the finals of the year. No Williams sisters, no Justine Henin, hell not even Ivanovic or Jankovic. If she doesn’t win its all her fault.
FIBA Tournament of the Americas [...]
