You know what I love about days like today, all the sports news is strictly about sports. There’s deadline deals flying about, Garnett is being finalized and there are no gambling, dogfighting or steroid scandals taking up the very little sports time that I’m sure life has afforded many of you out there.
And this week keeps getting better and better for Boston. If the Sox can dump Wily Mo Pena on somebody for just about anything, good for them.

Dear Boston
Know your role and shut your mouths. When this deal goes down you officially have zero, zilch, nada to complain about. You have three very good sports teams that represent you. Your precious Red Sox are currently the best team in baseball. The Patriots are heavily favored to win it all due to actually being good on paper as opposed to ‘how are they doing this with these guys?‘ good. And now the Celtics have leapfrogged their way back into relevancy in the NBA. This has to be dream come true for Stern to have the Celtics relevant again. I [...]
McHaeeelle NO!
First, a moment for Bill Walsh. A great, great loss to the football community. He will be missed….
For once, I agreed with Stephen A. Smith. The man took hold of Skip Bayless’ ass today and handed it right back to him on First Take. Of course this deal is great for the Celtics, they are relevant again and a top team in the East. The only way to explain what Kevin Mchale was thinking however, was that he wanted to help his own team, just like Mr. Simmons explains it here (for the record, Simmons was spot on today).
I have [...]
Bonds hit No. 754 tonight. Two more and this whole shebang is over.
And while your waiting for that next one to happen, here’s something to think about, drive-time radio style. If Bonds had never broken the single season record nor ever been a factor to Hank’s legacy, does the steroids issue remain such a big problem, or does the nation brush guys like Sheffield off a little easier? Hell, does anyone even remember that Shawn Merriman got suspended for steroid use last year?
And like I said a couple months ago, I still don’t believe in the spring training hype, but [...]
Quick Thoughts
-I’m going to lead off by giving my condolences to Wake Forest and the family of their head basketball coach Skip Prosser. He died of a heart attack at the age of 56. The only time I saw him was on ESPN when they did a piece on Xavier and Wake Forest and seemed like a genuine nice guy. I feel for his family and for the players, all who have lost an important figure in their lives.
-Vick pleaded not guilty. The way I see this going down is unless the feds can scare his three friends, Vick will walk. [...]
QnD Reaction
Quick N Dirty reaction to Coup’s post.
–From everything I have read and heard, Donaghy was considered a “loner” by most of the other refs around the league. Now I highly doubt that a 21-year referee like Eddie F. Rush would cover up for Tim Donaghy. Especially considering that NBA referees are well taken care of, especially the experienced one. I may disagree with his calls, but I don’t think he would put himself in jeopardy or injure the integrity of the game for a “business associate” like Donaghy. The biggest question and subplot of the story is if there were [...]
A Look at the Work of Donaghy
You can fast foward through the first thirty or forty seconds. This was the best example video I could find in the time I had. A few quick thoughts before Suns fans start freaking out:
-When you start noticing that not all these calls are made by Donaghy but by his crew, you’ve got to wonder what the guys working with him the last couple years were thinking during these games. This is one thing that scares me the most, that somehow Donaghy got other refs to cover up for him.-Suns fans, I know you are pissed, but this pretty much [...]
The Conference
David Stern proved just why he is the greatest commissioner in sports and should run for President.
Anyone disagree?
BAD-ell
As a commissioner of a major sports league, there is a line that has to be tip-toed between doing too much and doing too little. Roger Goodell is doing entirely too much.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Goodell ordered Michael Vick to skip the Falcons training camp. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Michael Vick has not been proven of doing any sort of misconduct, but Goodell is jumping the gun, succumbing to the court of public opinion. Essentially he is labeling Vick guilty before the trial. I feel as if this is abysmal to bar a guy who [...]
Worst Case
UPDATE: I don’t even want to hear about how Donaghy cost the Suns Game 3. To quote Vince McMahon “Tim Donaghy didn’t screw the Phoenix Suns, the Phoenix Suns screwed the Phoenix Suns.”
The more I digest this Donaghy story, the more I am able to form my own conclusions. I believe that there is only one referee involved in this and that is Donaghy. Speculation is that Donaghy may name players and referees and this could become a full blown scandal. But from the stories that I have been reading it sounds like only Donaghy would be invovled. Donaghy was [...]
