When I Get That Feeling: NBA Draft 2007 Thoughts

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

There’s nothing like that feeling when you wake up after your team had a great showing at the draft and everything has finally settled in your brain and you can stretch it all out and take one, long, deep, happy sigh. Seattle fans felt that today. I felt that to a smaller extent after the Cowboys draft this year when they swindled Cleveland’s ‘08 pick and now I am fortunate enough to have that feeling again about my most-favorite team.
The NBA offseason is the greatest of all sports. It has the draft excitement that baseball lacks and the trade rumors [...]

Draft Thoughts Part Deux

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Before I get to those though, why is everyone suddenly jumping on the ‘Ray Allen sucks’ bandwagon. Do you people know how lights out Ray Allen is? The man has averaged 20+ for what seems like forever. He is one of the best shooters to ever play the game. I don’t want to hear about age…if MJ could play the game at 40, if Chris Webber can still jog up and down, if Sabonis, Parish, Cartwright, Joe Dumars all of those guys could play old why can’t Ray Allen? He’s coming off a 55-game season and he got both his [...]

QnD Draft Thoughts

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just wanted to get a couple thoughts done early before I get to a full-blown reaction later. It may have been the commentators but is it just me or was every pick explainable. Contrast to last year when guys like Patrick O’Bryant and Mohammed Sene were in the lottery and people were just shaking their heads. Don’t get me wrong there were some bad picks and some that I didn’t agree with but at the end of the day they all seemed to make sense. Remember the Draft is the START of the off-season and what a way some teams [...]

World, Meet Kevin Pritchard

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Good golly Ms. Molly. Holy heavens in Holland. Geez Ms. Louise. Oh my leaping lords. Sweet symphonies of smiles.
My brain feels like jello with an electrical current running through it right now. June 28th 2007 (not to mention 2006) will go down as one of greatest days in the history of the city of Portland. The fate of the NBA has been decided. Mountains have been moved and oceans have been parted.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2007 Portland Trailblazers!
Now let me go figure out who all of them are and how they got here and I’ll recap everything I can for [...]

NBA Draft 07 Running Thoughts

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s not a diary people…running thoughts. The NBA Draft Preview just started (I’ll be listening, I don’t need much more hype) and we are less than a half hour from the draft itself. Already I have something to say.
4:03 PT: Noah is candidate for worst dressed. Not only is his suit bad, but he has a gross bowtie and his hair down. He just looks a mess. His daddy would not be happy.
4:09 PT: Rumored trade; Seattle trades Ray Allen to Boston for the #5 pick, Delonte West and Wally Sczerbiak. Is it just me or does that trade not [...]

The Day Has Come

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Draft Day has finally arrived. And I can honestly say, sitting at this computer that nearly anything could happen by the end of the tonight. Anything. So many trades have been thrown out there, so many people could get drafted in different places. I think when you go down the line, all the way to the 30s this is one of the deepest drafts we have seen. There aren’t too many of those projects or borderline guys…everyone looks solid and like they can contribute. At least in the mock drafts when you are the one thinking what is best for [...]

Oden is the Pick

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The fate of western civilization has been decided.
Ric Bucher announced on both ESPN News and the ESPN Draft Preview that close sources within Oden’s camp have told him that the Blazers have let them know that Oden is the pick.
I may be stuck on the east coast in a storm, but that just brought the biggest smile to my face. Now all I need to do is get home before 4 p.m. PT tomorrow and were all set.
I’m really interested to hear Pritchard’s breakdown of their “process.” Namely, I want to know who all wanted who, and who shut down [...]

It’s Going Down

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Trying to hold down the fort here at the Project while Coup makes his way back to the Pacific Northwest. Rumors are flying left and right and it is tough to talk about stuff that in the back of your mind you feel are going to die in about three hours. But I am here and I am going to talk about it all. That’s right, this may be the most scatterbrained blog entry I have ever had in my life but I’ve got to shake the combination of the bizarre Benoit story and absolute chaos in the L. Grammar [...]

Sidenote

AUTHOR: Coup | IN: Blazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just because he is irritating me so much lately (notice how he makes Las Vegas Sonics jokes about a month after he said Vegas will never have a franchise after the All-Star Weekend debacle): Bill Simmons is currently getting his you-know-what handed to him by Chad Ford in an interactive mock draft.
Speaking of mock drafts, we should have our final version up late tonight due to travel schedules.
Steve is right though, there is a ridiculous number of rumors flying around the L right now. I’m getting the feeling everybody is waiting to see what happens with KG. Kevin Pritchard said [...]
